How to Create an Instagram Scrapbook for School Memories
There are always new trends on social media, but one that seems to be sticking around is Instagram scrapbooks. These feature your favourite photos in the style of an old-school scrapbook, giving you the chance to show off your graphic design skills. You can use Instagram scrapbooks for all sorts of things, but they’re particularly ideal for compiling memories of your time at university. Here’s how you can get started.
Step 1: Choose the Photos
If you’re only part way through university, the likelihood is you’ll be making many more great memories in the future. It may be worth choosing just a certain period of time for your scrapbook (such as one semester or year) or a particular event.
Whatever you decide to do, you’ll need to pick out your best photos. Choose photos that have a special meaning to you as well as some that are aesthetically pleasing. Add everything to a new album to make it easy to locate them.
Step 2: Edit the Photos
Spend some time enhancing your photos individually. You may also like to make cutouts of some photos. To do this on an iPhone, just touch the part of the photo you want to cut and save it separately to your camera roll.
Step 3: Create a Template
Use the graphic design app of your choice to make a template for your scrapbook. Set the size to 1080 by 1080 — this is the size of an Instagram post. If you have too many photos for just one post, create a bigger scrapbook carousel post. The height will still be 1080, but the width will be 1080 multiplied by the number of posts you want in your carousel. For instance, three slides would be 1080 by 3240.
Step 4: Assemble the Photos
With your template set up, you’re ready to start creating the scrapbook itself. Begin by choosing appropriate photos for your background — scenery is ideal. If you don’t have enough suitable options, take some photos of campus, your student housing, or the surroundings, such as a nearby park at sunset. Overlay these with the rest of your photos. Try to cover all the edges of your background photos for a seamless look.
Step 5: Finish with Some Scrapbook Elements
Search for some elements that will make your design look more like a scrapbook. Many graphic design apps have elements like ripped paper, tape, and stickers ready for you to use.
Step 6: Cut Your Scrapbook into Pieces
Before you can upload your scrapbook to Instagram, you’ll need to cut your design into equal pieces. Use a tool to split the design into the number of posts you choose at the start. Then, upload your photos to Instagram as a carousel.
